Last week was a painful one around the Brown House. It started on Tuesday afternoon (July 27th) when Vince came home from work and I was in the garage. While we walked into the house together I meant put the garage door down. Out of habit I pushed the button for the main garage door when I needed to close the smaller one, which left both garage doors open! We also failed to lock the door going from the house into the garage (which we usually do).
Deklan had been playing with his trains in the play-room and then quietly went into the garage, saw the garage doors open, and then headed to the park with our dog Sophie as his only companion.
When Vince went to check on Deklan he saw the door going into the garage slightly cracked, so he ran outside to get Deklan without taking the time to put his shoes on and severely burned his feet!
Then, on Friday, it was my turn for an injury.
I had my cousin Heather and her kids over to swim for the day. After lunch everyone got back in the pool while I grabbed our ice cream treats to eat. I decided the kids could sit around the table inside our pool and eat, so I propped my foot on the edge of the table to raise the umbrella and slipped on the wet surface!
I went head first into the umbrella and landed on my wrist. Right away I knew something was wrong! I had a terrible amount of pain and couldn't move my hand.... By the time I got into the house I felt like I was going to pass out and throw up.
Since Vince was working from home and letting his burned feet heal, he hobbled over to me and tried to help. There was already a lump forming on the left side of my right wrist and the pain was aching all the way up to my elbow, so I knew I needed to get this checked out. Vince still couldn't drive, so I called my sister and her husband Tony picked me up and took me to urgent care.
The doctor told me I had a fractured navicular of the wrist and put me in a fiberglass splint that was not removable and couldn't get wet. He then told me to go to an orthopedic specialist the next week so that it could be re x-rayed and casted.
I went to the specialist on Tuesday and he did not see the fracture so he's treating my injury as a bad sprain and I only have to wear a removable splint (what a relief!). I see him again in 3 weeks and if I'm not making good recovery he'll send me for an MRI so we can get a good picture of what's going on.
Between my injury and Vince's we decided we needed some extra help around the house and with the boys, so we asked my sister Hannah to stay with us for the week.
